Willem van Scheijndel’s paintings are often inspired by other cultures, civilizations and impressions that he has gained during his travels. In 1984 and 1985 he made a first series of works called Taffeh paintings. These works are a contemporary interpretation of the ancient world. This series was followed by sober impressions of Turkey and the colorful Barcelona series. Man’s alienation from his environment and cultural heritage was reflected in the subsequent Lakotah Land series.
